Ammunition Scandal Leads to Dismissal of Saxony State Criminal Police Office Head
Dresden dpa -
In the wake of the ammunition scandal within the Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA), President Sonja Penzel has been dismissed with immediate effect.
Saxony's Interior Minister Roland Wöller announced the decision on Tuesday, citing the need for a "new start" at the LKA. The scandal involves the disappearance of thousands of rounds of ammunition from LKA stocks, which were subsequently found in private possession.
Penzel, who had been President of the LKA since April 2021, has been placed on leave pending an investigation into her role in the scandal. The LKA is responsible for serious and organized crime investigations in Saxony.
Wöller stated that the dismissal of Penzel was a necessary step to restore public trust in the LKA and ensure its effectiveness in combating crime. The investigation into the ammunition scandal is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
